Newman Baseball hosts Rogers State for its first MIAA series of the season beginning on Friday.
Â
Last Time Out
Newman Baseball picked up a win on the road against Southwestern College on Tuesday, scoring three runs deep into the game to get the win.
Newman again fell behind early, but made the deficit manageable by going down just one run against the Mound Builders.
After two scoreless innings for Newman, the Jets really turned on the offense, taking a three-run lead in the third.Â
Nick Chasey started the scoring for Newman, after his double led toÂ
Hunter Brown getting the Jets their first run of the day.
The Mound Builders quietly got their way back into the game and would end up tying the game at four runs a piece in the fifth inning.
Newman, while continually getting in scoring opportunities, were unable to get the go ahead run to win the game in nine innings, taking Southwestern to a tenth inning.
PitcherÂ
Brycen Schoenhofer helped keep Southwestern scoreless in the final innings, just allowing two hits through 5.1 innings.
In the tenth and final inning,Â
Trent Trammell had a huge single that allowedÂ
Jack Kiser to score the winning run of the day. Another single fromÂ
Joe Kinneberg later in the inning out the game on ice, as Trammell and Schneider scored to give the Jets a 7-4 lead.
Brycen Schoenhofer earned his first win of the season, striking out three and allowing only one run in the 7-4 win.
Lance Elsen would be credited with a save in the final inning of the game, striking out the last two batters.
Â
At The Plate
First baseman
Trent Trammell has proven to be a huge asset for the Jets on offense and defense, as his first full season as a starter continues. Trammell leads the team in batting average, as he is hitting over .400 in the first month of the season.
In the 10
th inning against Southwestern College, Trammel's single led to
Jack Kiser scoring the winning run of the game. The RBI was his ninth of the season.
Over the Wohl
Eli Wohl leads the team in hits, home runs and RBIs, as the leadoff batter continues to be a major threat for the Jets offense.
Welcome back Hillcats
The Jets will open the MIAA slate for the second straight season against Rogers State in Wichita.
Newman picked up a 2-1 series win against the then ranked #21 Hillcats.
This season, Rogers State has started 7-3. Winning their last eight of nine, Rogers State started the season losing their first two games at the Dugan Invitational in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
Since then, the Hillcats have picked up series win over Colorado Christian and McKendree.
Â
The Tuesday Midweek
Newman takes on Southeastern Oklahoma State for the fourth time this season, with the Jets already having faced off with the Savage Storm in Durant earlier this month. The Savage Storm won the series, but the Jets have a chance to take a game off a team that has lost four straight and is yet to win a game on the road.
Â
What's Next?
Newman will head to Joplin for their first MIAA road series against Missouri Southern beginning on March 1
st.
