The Lion Sleeps Tonight
Jets Baseball will play in their first MIAA road series of the year, going back to the Joplin to take on the Missouri Southern Lions in a three-game series.
Â
Last Time Out
The Jets played in their most complete game so far this season, defeating Southeastern Oklahoma State 13-3 on Tuesday. Both the hitting and pitching were excellent to give the Jets their first home win of the season.
In particular fashion,Â
Trent Trammell started the game with a huge hit that scored the first runs of the day. Trammell, who was the Jets leader in batting average, had a big day and helped to propel the Jets to more runs throughout the game.Â
Big hits fromÂ
Jason Schneider andÂ
Will Bomersbach scored another two runs in the inning, as the Savage Storm were stunned at the fast pace of the Newman offense.Â
Scoring off a wild pitch, Schneider gave the Jets a 4-0 lead.Â
The Jets could not be stopped against any of the five Savage Storm pitchers who entered the game, as they allowed thirteen runs and eleven hits.Â
The Jets saw some of their best pitching of the season today as well. StarterÂ
Garrett Calderon allowed just one run through three innings of work.Â
Aiden Rea, who was making his collegiate debut, earned his first win of the season and like Calderon, allowed just one run in three innings.Â
Lance Elsen saw the game out in the seventh, striking out one of the final batters with two runners in scoring position.Â

At The Plate
The Navy and Red's big hitters showed out against the Savage Storm on Tuesday, with each having some big moments in the game.
Will Bomersbach's home run was his fourth of the season, which leads the team. His 2 RBI nuke into right field gave the Jets a 7-1 advantage in just the second inning.
Eli Wohl, who has a team leading 15 RBI's this season, had two hits in the game, including the only triple of the contest. Wohl is batting .329 through the first month of the season.
Jason Schneider has been a key figure for the Newman offense this season. Not only has he been hitting and fielding well, but he also is known to steal a base or two during a game. Schneider leads the team in stolen bases with seven this season.
Trent Trammell has been consistently hitting the ball in the first month of the season, leading the team with a .434 batting average. He is currently tied for first in hits this season, with both him and Wohl each at twenty-three.
Â
True Freshman
Aiden Rea earned his first collegiate win on Tuesday, coming in as reliever in the fourth inning. Rea, who is a true freshman, allowed just one run in three innings of work.
Â
The Enemy Dugout
Missouri Southern, who is currently ranked eighth in the NCBWA Poll, has started the year with a 14-4 record. Winning their first conference series against Fort Hays State last weekend, the Lions have also lost their last two games. A surprising loss against Oklahoma Baptist on Tuesday saw Missouri Southern get shelled in a 20-10 loss.
The Jets forced game three against the Tigers the last time they met in the first round of the MIAA tournament, which was only the third time Newman had beaten the Tigers. The Jets have won all three times in the past two years.
The Tuesday Midweek
The Jets host Northwestern Oklahoma State on Tuesday, March 5
th for Newman's first midweek in the month of March.
The Rangers are 11-5 and have lost three of their last four.
NWOSU did beat the Jets in an early meeting this season, with the Rangers coming back after being down 8-4 in the seventh inning. A five run eighth inning gave the Rangers their third win of the season.
