Jets beaten by late Rangers surge

Four Jets with home runs; three with two RBI's

ALVA, Okla. - Newman Baseball played their first midweek game of the season, traveling to face Northwestern Oklahoma State in Alva on Tuesday.

Following a 1-3 series with Southern Nazarene, the Jets were looking to keep their offense hot and improve in the outfield.

The Jets offense got off to the best possible start, with Eli Wohl nailing a home run at the first at bat of the game, which was his second home run of the young season. Shortly after Wohl had the first run on the board, a two run bomb from Hunter Brown gave the Jets an early 3-0 lead in the second inning.

The Rangers would get a run back on the board in the third, but the Newman offense continued to be explosive.

The Jets would get a four run advantage in the fifth, with a Trent Trammell home run scoring two runs. Trammell had an excellent day at bat, falling just short of completing a cycle.

The Rangers would not go away easy however, as they brought the game back to a one run game with the Jets still leading, 5-4.

Two more home runs from Dalton Smith and Garrett Arnold retained the Newman advantage with just two more innings in the game.

The Jets could not see out the game, as the Rangers would score five runs in the eighth to give them their first lead of the day over Newman.

Newman had several singles in the ninth, but a crucial out was made as Cullen Glossen was caught trying to steal second. The Rangers stole a late win from the Jets to win 9-8.

The Jets had four home runs from four different players in the game, which was the most home runs the Jets had in a game since a 23-14 win over Southeastern Oklahoma last April. Newman had six games last season of four home runs or more in a game.

Eight of nine batters had at least one hit in the close loss, while six pitchers saw action.

The Jets will look to put this tough loss behind them, as they will head to Southeastern Oklahoma State for a weekend series.
