Take me to the River(Hawks)
Jets Baseball will take on Northeastern State in a crucial series this weekend, with both teams looking for their first series win in the MIAA.
Last Time Out
The Jets hosted Fort Hays State for the first of a three game midweek series on Tuesday, in a game that the Jets gave up some big runs after keeping it close in the first several innings.
Fort Hays started the game scoring four runs in the top of the first inning aided by a three RBI home run to center field.
Newman responded scoring two runs in the bottom of the same inning. Jack Kiser singled to second base, scoring Jason Schneider and Joe Kinneberg.
Hunter Brown kept the pressure on the Tigers after scoring his third home run of the season in the bottom of the second inning with a bomb to center field.
After the third inning, the Tigers offense was too much for the Jets' pitching crew, as they couldn't stop them from scoring in the remaining innings.
Box Score
At The Plate
Hunter Brown scored his third home run of the season for Newman on Tuesday against the Tigers, as he is now one of three other players to have three home runs this season. Will Bombersbach has the most on the team with five.
Eli Wohl has had a solid season as the leadoff hitter thus far, leading the way with 31 hits. Joe Kinneberg is now the Jets batting average leader, with a .368 average in the a month that has seen the third baseman increase his output.
The Enemy Dugout
After beginning the season 0-4 and then winning eight of their next nine, Northeastern State is still looking for their first MIAA series win of the season.
The RiverHawks have picked up one conference win over Missouri Western, but after that win have lost nine out of the next ten.
Leading batter Tyson Fourkiller is averaging .430 at the plate, while also leading the team with hits with 37. Fourkiller has 16 RBIs to his name this season as well.
NSU is just above Newman in the MIAA standings, but a series win would put the Jets above the RiverHawks after this weekend.
The Tuesday Midweek
The Jets will be off next Tuesday, with the next midweek game scheduled for March 26th at Fort Hays State.
What's Next?
The Jets will be on the road once again, heading to Missouri Western next weekend for a three-game conference series.
