ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - Newman Baseball picked up their first road conference win of the season Thursday afternoon, putting away Missouri Western in a game that the Jets led the whole way through.

Coming off two close losses on the road last weekend to Northeastern State, the Jets got off to a much better start and would not have to play from behind at any point in the contest.

Two back to back hits from Jason Schneider and Joe Kinneberg got the Jets on the board early, with a Kinneberg double bringing home Schneider who had singled at the previous at bat. Following a walk and a hit by pitch, Connor Owens would reach first off of an error on a play that bring two more runners home.

The Griffons got a run back off of an error in the bottom of the inning, but after this the Newman pitchers were able to keep the Missouri Western batters quiet for the next several innings after the Griffons made it 3-2.

Jack Kiser got in on the action in the fourth inning with the bases loaded, scoring Shawn Marquis after singling to short stop. Dalton Smith would give Newman some breathing room in the following inning, scoring off of a passed ball.

Marquis would score his second run of the game off of a huge Eli Wohl triple in the seventh inning, as the Jets were comfortably flying to a conference road win.

The Griffons did give Newman some worries near the end and got within a run with two outs in the ninth, but thanks to pitcher Andrew Prieve, he struck out the final batter to give the Jets their first MIAA win on the road this season.

Kinneberg finished the day with three hits and two RBIs, while Schneider and Wohl had two hits of their own.

Cole Landgraf was given his first win of the season, pitching five innings and striking out two.

Prieve earned his second save of the year, pitching the final two innings of the game.

The Jets will have a chance at a series win over the Griffons tomorrow, with game two beginning at 1 p.m.
