Jets click on all cylinders in thumping of Griffons

Owens finishes with three RBI performance in series finale

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - Newman Baseball picked up their first MIAA series win on Saturday, defeating Missouri Western in a dominant performance in a ten run win.

The teams had split the first two games, with both contests being decided by just one run. Newman won the first day, 6-5, while the Griffons had leveled the series up with a 8-7 win on Friday.

In the first of a two RBI day for Joe Kinneberg, he got things rolling for the Jets, scoring a quick Eli Wohl run to open the game.

The Griffons tied the game in the third, but Newman was about to have one of their most impressive innings of the season in the fifth.

The Jets scored four runs in the fifth without any outs, and took one of their biggest leads of the weekend against the Griffons.

Connor Owens, who had made his first career start on Thursday for the Jets, had one of the biggest weekends out of anyone on the roster. On Friday, Owens had two RBIs. He would follow this performance with a three RBI day in the series finale.

Owens got his first of the day off of a single scoring Garrett Arnold. Owens would also eventually score the fourth run of the inning. Jack Kiser added insult to injury on the scoreboard, scoring a fifth run without the Jets having any outs.

Owens would then score another run in the seventh inning, giving him two runs to end the day. His biggest play was then added in the eighth, when a single gave him two more RBIs.

The Griffons were unable to keep up with the high level of offense and defense that the Jets were putting up, as pitcher Colby Wilson allowed just one earned run in eight innings of work.

The 11-1 win was Newman's biggest win on the road this season, as they will now look to carry over the momentum into next weekend when they host the national ranked Central Missouri Mules for a three game series beginning on Thursday.
