Baseball completes comeback in thrilling game against Northwestern Oklahoma State

Kiser clinched the win with a two RBI single

WICHITA - The Jets faced Northwestern Oklahoma State in a midweek matchup on Tuesday afternoon. Newman was behind in the scoreboard throughout the whole game but was able to get the lead in the bottom of the ninth inning completing a heroic comeback. The last time the Jets played a midweek home game they run-ruled Southeastern Oklahoma State.

Newman was coming back to action after almost beating the number eight ranked Missouri Southern Lions on Sunday. The Lions were only able to win with a two run difference. Even though the Jets weren't able to get the win, the team left with a good feeling knowing that they could compete against such a good team.

The Jets started the game slow offensively not being able to score a run in the first four innings. Garrett Calderon was able to keep the Jets in the game only allowing three runs in three innings pitched. The Rangers offense started the game hot and it looked like it was going to be a slung party for them, but Calderon made sure that didn't happen.

Gavin Wakefield followed Calderon's steps and stopped the Rangers scoring streak in the top of the fourth. Wakefield didn't allow a single hit or run in the inning he pitched.

Andrew Hudson came in the fifth inning to continue the good defense from the Jets. Hudson only allowed the Rangers one hit and one run in the top of the fifth.

Jacob Butash didn't waste the opportunity that Coach Maus gave him and got the Jets offense going with a single to first base that scored Will Bomersbach in the bottom of the fifth.

After another great defensive top inning from Newman, Garrett Arnold scored Eli Wohl in the bottom of the sixth with a single to left field to bring the Jets to only a two run game.

The tension started to rise in the top of the seventh inning after the Rangers were able to score two more runs. For some people that would mean the game is over, but not for the Jets.

Eli Wohl was a key factor in the Jets offense throughout the whole game. He singled to right field, scoring Jacob Butash to keep the Jets hopes alive in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Jets would leave three runners on base showing the Rangers that the game wasn't over just yet.

Jaret Granger didn't need more than thirteen pitches to get all three Rangers batters out for a quick top of the eighth inning and to give the Jets another opportunity to come back in the game.

Dalton Smith brought the game back to a two run difference with a single to left field that scored Jace Schneider.

After an error from the Rangers third baseman, the Jets were able to get just within one run after Jack Kiser was able to score an unearned run.

Andrew Prieve couldn't have been more clutch for the Jets. The Graduate Pitcher stopped the Rangers from scoring in the most crucial moment of the game. He didn't allow a single hit and was able to strike out one of the batters leaving everything up to the Jets hitters.

After a single from Wohl, a hit by pitch from Kinneberg and an intentional walk from Schneider, Jack Kiser completed the comeback and clinched the win for the Jets with a single to first base that scored Eli Wohl and Joe Kinneberg.

The Jets will be back in action this Friday in the first of a three game series that Newman will host against Central Oklahoma.
