Jets unable to stop Bronchos offense in Games 1 & 2

Schneider hits third homer of the season

WICHITA - Baseball hosted a double header against Central Oklahoma on Saturday afternoon after Friday's bad weather forced the teams to schedule two nine-inning games on Saturday. Central Oklahoma's offense was too much for the Jets in the first game. Game two was a different story. The winner was decided in the bottom of the ninth and the game could have gone either way.

Newman was coming off of a ninth inning comeback win against Northwestern Oklahoma State on Tuesday afternoon where Jack Kiser hit a single to first base to win the game for the Jets. Baseball was looking to continue their good form, but a very strong first inning from UCO made it very difficult for the Jets to compete in game one.

Game 1:

The Bronchos got the first game started with a home run to center field that scored two runs. A couple singles, a double, an error and a walk helped the visiting team score a total of nine runs in the top of the first inning making it very hard for the Jets to hope for a comeback after they weren't able to respond with any runs in the bottom of the first.

Brycen Schoenhofer was able to stop the bleeding in the top of the second not allowing any runs and leaving three runners on base.

The Jets were able to get two runners on base in the bottom of the second but weren't able to transform them into runs.

A second home run added the tenth run for the Bronchos in the top of the third. The damage could have been worse but the Jets defense was able to stop it by leaving two runners on base.

Even though Jacob Butash was able to get a single, the Jets couldn't get their offense going in the bottom of the third.

Jack Kiser gave a glimpse of hope to the Jets, doubling to left field. Mathew Hamilton followed his steps with a single to second base that scored Kiser for the first and only Jet run in the game.

The Bronchos added four more runs in the top of the sixth to wrap up the game applying the run-rule.

Game 2:

The second game had a completely different narrative. Connor Rowe started pitching for the Jets. Rowe struck out 7 batters and only allowed four hits and two runs in the six innings he played.

After six great defensive innings from Rowe, Jaret Granger got in the game to continue the defensive effort. Granger pitched for three full innings and did not give up any runs or hit, and struck out two batters.

The great performance from both pitchers kept the Jets in the game until the end.

Jason Schneider hit his third home run of the season in the bottom of the seventh inning with a bomb to right field to give the Jets hope for a comeback and keep the game within one run.

The Jets weren't able to score an equalizer in the remaining two innings despite their multiple attempts.

The Bronchos took the second game with a final 1-2 score.

The Jets will be back to action tomorrow at 1:00 PM for the final game of the series against Central Oklahoma.
