Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Jets beat Cougars in last non-conference home game

Tascheto's first Jet goal gives Newman the win

WICHITA- Men's Soccer fought their way back to winnings ways in the last non-conference home game of the season. Newman was coming back after a tough loss to Drury on Thursday afternoon. With two starters unable to play, the Jets had to make up for it with players that haven't accumulated a lot of minutes this season so far. Overcoming multiple challenges, the Jets were able to find the back of the net twice to take a 2-1 win before heading to Colorado for the last non-conference games.

How It Happened:
  • Newman started the first half in the best possible way, scoring a goal in the first minute of the game. Gabriel Dias Juliani scored from inside the box after a combination between his brother, Gustavo Dias Juliani and Nicolo Lai
  • The Jets completely dominated the first half, accumulating ten shots and not allowing the Cougars to add any to their tally. Alberto Romano had three of the ten Jets shots in the half, forcing the CCU goalkeeper to make a save in one of them.
  • The second half started with three early shots on target from the Cougars, all saved by Juan Carlos Cordova
  • At 64:28 the Jets went down a man for the second game in a row, making it harder to stop the Cougars offense.
  • Five minutes later, CCU was able to get through Newman's defense to score the tying goal.
  • Despite the challenges, Newman was able to take the ball from the Cougars and dominate once again.
  • Almost five minutes after CCU's goal, Paulo Villalobos crossed a perfect set piece to Caio Tascheto's head to give him his first goal as a Jet, and Newman the lead again.
  • The Cougars had multiple attempts on goal after that, but it wasn't enough to stop the Jets from getting their second win of the season.

Player Notes:
The Jets move to 2-2-0 in the season and will travel to Lakewood, Colo. for their last two non-conference games on Thursday and Saturday.
