Volleyball drops first match at SNU/UCO Tournament

Jets fall short to Oklahoma Baptist

BETHANY, Okla.- The Jets are on the road for one last non-conference tournament. On day one of the SNU/UCO Tournament, Newman faced Oklahoma Baptist.

How It Happened:
-The first set was an even battle for the Jets and Bison. Until the Bison made a run and jumped out to a 15-8 lead. The Jets tried to make a run back at the Bison with help from Ozioma Ajekwu and Natalie Meyer, recording 4 kills a piece. However, the Bison held strong and didn't allow the Jets to make the comeback. The Jets fell short in set one, 25-16.
- The Bison kept their momentum in the second set and got out to an 8-2 lead forcing the Jets to take a time out. After the timeout, the Jets scored the next two points to close the gap to 8-4. However, that was all the Bison allowed, forcing the Jets to take another timeout at the 10-4 mark. Though the Jets kept trying to put together a run, the OBU offense was too strong. The Jets fell in the second set, 25-11.
-The Jets allowed the Bison to jump to a 10-1 lead in the third set. The Jets made a late 6-0 run to make it a five point game at 22-17 with the Bison still out in front. However, the early deficit was too much for the Jets to complete the comeback. OBU took the final set, 25-19.

Player Notes:
- Makenna Reinert led the Jets with 8 kills.
- Ajekwu and Meyer added 7 kills.
- Natalie Trigo led the Jets defense with 15 digs.

The Jets are back tomorrow for day two of the UCO/SNU tournament. Newman will face Southern Nazarene at 1:30 PM and Southwestern Oklahoma State at 6:30 PM.
