Last Time Out
Newman dropped the last non-conference game of the season to a strong Southern Nazarene offense on Saturday evening. Two second half goals made it hard for the Jets to comeback. After a very close and competitive first half, SNU took the win with a 3-0 final score.

Scouting the Jets
-Carla Apodaca leads the Jets in goalkeeper minutes. Through five games, she has started five games. In those five games she has recorded 19 saves. 
-Marta Aranda, Lexi Bauer, and Kartina Kowitz have all recorded goals through non-conference play. 
-Allison Hernandez leads the Jets with 2 assists through the first five contests. 
 
Behind Enemy Lines
Emporia State is coming off a 14-6-4 season. The Hornets made post season play where they lost to Washburn in the third round of the national tournament. Emporia State was picked 5th in the MIAA preseason coaches' poll and return five players who played over 1,000 minutes last season. This season in non-conference play the Hornets went 2-2-1 with wins against Southwest Minnesota State and Northern State, and added a tie against Drury. 
 
Washburn is coming off a 21-4-1 season where they were the regular season MIAA champions and runners up in last year's National Championship. In the preseason, the Ichabods grabbed the 2nd spot in the USC National preseason poll and took the top spot in the MIAA preseason coaches' poll. Through non-conference play, the Ichabods are 3-2-1. The Ichabods start their MIAA campaign against Central Oklahoma on Friday. 

The Series
The Jets and Hornets have gone head-to-head six times. Emporia State currently has the lead with five wins against the Jets and one tie. The last matchup was in October of 2023 when the Hornets took the game, 4-2.
 
The Jets and Ichabods have a longer history with Washburn leading the all-time the series with six wins, three losses, and two ties. The last matchup was in October of 2023 where the Ichabods took the game, 3-0.
