WICHITA- Newman started their 2024 home games with a 4-0 win against the Southwest Baptist Bearcats. The Jets brought their A game to their home opener looking to bounce back into winning ways after a tough 2-1 loss to Oklahoma Christian on Thursday. 

How It Happened:

• The Jets started the first half strong totaling five shots in the first twelve minutes of the game, with three of them being on target.
• At 12:48, Alberto Romano scored his first goal of the season after a dangerous shot from Nicolo Lai was barely deflected by the goalkeeper and Romano was there to smash it in the back of the net.
• Only ten minutes after scoring his first, Romano scored his second goal of the day from the pk spot. Nicolo Lai forced the Bearcats to foul him inside of the box to aid "Beto" into scoring his first brace as a Jet.
• Romano continued the Newman penalty scoring streak, making it 16 goals out of the last 16 pks taken. 
• Newman pushed to get a third goal before half with six more shots but it wasn't enough to get through the Southwest goalkeeper again.
• At 52:29, Mario De Roque Zazon found the back of the net for the first time this season after a beautiful combination between Nicolo Lai and Asa Moncivais.
• A total of eighteen Newman players entered the field throughout the game, giving some rest to the players that had the most amount of minutes over the weekend. 
• To wrap up a perfect home opener, Gabriel Dias Juliani scored his first goal as a Jet off of a great cross from Felipe Calderaro.  

Player Notes:

• Senior Alberto Romano leads the Jets in goals after his brace, and added five shots to his tally in seventy minutes.
• Mario De Roque Zazon had two shots on goal and one goal.
• Gabriel Dias Juliani scored his first Jet goal, and added three shots on target in fifty four minutes of play. 
• Juan Carlos Cordova earned the clean sheet and added three saves.   

Newman moves to 1-1-0, and will host Drury on Thursday, September 12th at 4:00 PM for their second home game of the season.
