WARRENSBURG, Mo. -The Jets took on the Central Missouri Mules in their first away game of the week. Despite a very hot start from Newman and a late comeback attempt, UCM took home the victory 70-80.
How it Happened:
-The game started with two high paced possessions that ended with a made layup from both teams. The Mules challenged the Jets with a three pointer that was followed by a quick made jumper from
Aaron Murphy, keeping the difference at one. Newman stopped UCM's attack and counter attacked with a three pointer by
Jordan Glenn-Hawkins. The Mules answered with a three point attempt that barely missed the iron. Taking the rebound, Hawkins trusted his confidence and shot a long three that gave the Jets a five point lead. Continuing his fiery start, Glenn-Hawkins recorded his third out of three shots from behind the arc to give the Jets an early eight point difference and set his 11th point of the night. Central Missouri didn't back down from the challenge and responded with two consecutive threes to cut the Jets lead down to two.
Thatcher McClure got in the scoring sheet with a layup and a free throw, putting the Jets up five again. After two minutes of a scoring drought, The Mules scored a three pointer and a dunk to level the game at 16 with 12:29 to play in the half. The game stayed within a scoring play for six minutes, but then another three pointer from the Mules put them up six. UCM stretched their lead to 15 points with only a minute to play in the half, but the Jets were able to bring it down to 11 before the half ended, leaving a score of 33-44.Â
-Coming off the break, the Mules maintained the pressure on the Jets with a long three pointer. The Jets tried to score quick points in order to cut down the Mules lead with
Sam Somerhalder scoring two free throws to give the Jets their first points in the half. UCM increased their lead to 21 points with 16:22 left in the game. A layup from Hawkins with over sixteen minutes to play marked his 16th point in the game.
Deadric Fikes joined the scorers sheet scoring one of two free throws. The Mules recorded their highest lead with 15:13 left to play, distancing themselves 24 points. In 9 minutes of playing time,Â
Aaron Murphy stepped up for the Jets and scored 7 points to bring the difference down to 10 with over 6 minutes left to play. With 1:24 left,
Boston Stanton III made a jumper to put the Jets only three points away from the Mules. The Jets displayed a heroic effort bringing the deficit down 21 points, but it wasn't enough to take the game and after some quick plays the game ended 70-80 in favor of the home team.Â
