TOPEKA, Kan.- Men's basketball faced No. 1 Washburn to end their weekend of competition. Against the top ranked Ichabods, the Jets dropped the contest 121-73.
How it Happened:
- Through the first five minutes of play, the Jets were battling with the ranked Ichabods squad. The Jets started up 5-2 after five points from
Aaron Murphy. The Ichabods tied it up at 5-5, but Murphy answered with another three to take the lead 8-5 with 17 minutes left in the first half. After this lead, the Ichabods were able to put together a 14-0 run to take Washburn out in front at 19-8 at the 13 minutes mark. A three-pointer by
Jayden Schoen stopped this Ichabod run and cut the deficit to eight.
Thatcher McClure was the next Jet to score, hitting a three, to cut the Ichabods lead to seven. After the three from McClure, Washburn went on a 9-0 run to stretch their lead out to 15 with ten minutes left in the half. A basket by Murphy stopped this run, but the Ichabods continued to be aggressive on the offensive end and were able to go on another 9-0 run. This run put the Ichabods up, 40-18 with 7:31 remaining. Four straight points by
Sam Somerhalder gave some life to the Jets, but the Ichabods were quick to answer. Washburn continued to put together runs in order to keep the Jets at a distance. The Jets trailed at half, 60-32.
- Out of the halftime break, the Ichabods were first to score. Somerhalder then scored the first four points in the second half for the Jets. Newman continued to score back and forth with the Ichabods through the first minutes of the second half. However, by the 15 minute mark, the Ichabods had the lead at 80-44. The Jets continued to try to battle with the ranked Bods, but they continued to answer back. With 13 minutes left to play, the deficit was 40. Somerhalder scored his 17th point at the 12:31 mark. Schoen hit double-digit points, after connecting with a three-pointer with under 11 minutes to play. The Jets were unable to cut into the Ichabods lead in the second half of play, dropping the contest, 121-73.

- Murphy tied his season high with 19 points.
- Somerhalder added 17 points with seven rebounds.
- Schoen scored 12 points for his career high.
The Jets return home next week to start a four-game home stint. The Jets will first face Arkansas-Fort Smith on Thursday, followed by Northeastern State on Saturday.
