WICHITA- Wrestling hosted the Jets Duals where they faced Ouachita Baptist and Drury. Against the Tigers of Ouachita Baptist, the Jets took the win 23-21 after a close battle. Then, against the Panthers the Jets fell short at 28-21.
vs. Ouachita Baptist: 23-21
Against the Tigers, the 125 lb weight class was open for the Jets, giving OBU the first six points.
Jevin Foust gave the Jets their first points of the dual, with a fall at 2:04 to make it 6-6.
Trent Moses (141lb) took his win over Hudson Herring with a decision at 13-7 to give the Jets three more points and take the lead.
Colby Schreiner (149 lb) also took his match by decision (14-10) which extended the Jets lead to 12-6.
Jace Fisher (165 lb) was the next Jet to win with a technical fall at the 3:51 mark (3:51). This win by Fisher put the Jets up 17-9. Ouachita Baptist picked up six points in the 174 lb to make it 17-15 with three matches left.
Dane Donigian (184 lb) battled out his win by decision (9-4) to give the Jets the 20-15 lead. The Tigers took the lead in the dual after winning the 197 lb match, putting the Jets down 21-20 with one match left.
Caleb Wunsch (285 lb) secured the Jets win with a win by decision at 7-2 making the final score 23-21 in favor of Newman. This win by the Jets secured their first conference win.
vs. Drury: 21-28
The Jets were open in the 125 lb, giving the Panthers the 6-0 lead to start. In the 133lb,
Jevin Foust defeated his opponent due to injury, tying the dual at 6-6. Drury took the match over
Trent Moses at 141 lb, with a fall at 2:49 to take the 12-6 lead. The Panthers were able to extend their lead to 18-6 after winning the 149 lb and 157 lb both by decision. In the 165 lb,
Jace Fisher extended his match to an extra round but was able to secure the win by sudden victory (4-1) to make the score 18-9 with four matches to go. Drury was able to take the match at 174 lb to take their lead to 22-9.
Dane Donigian was able to take his match by fall at the 6:14 mark to cut the deficit to seven at 22-15 still in favor of the Panthers. Drury secured the win in the 197lb match with a fall at the 2:48 mark to make it 28-15. Wunsch ended the dual with a win by fall at 1:35 to make the final score 28-21.
The Jets are back January 26th at 2 PM to face Fort Hays State.
