Jets fall by narrowest of margins in Hays

Wrestling falls to Tigers, 23-22

FORT HAYS, Kan.- The Jets traveled to Fort Hays State to take on the Tigers in a conference dual. The Jets are coming off a win in their last conference dual against Ouachita Baptist, 23-21. Against the Tigers, the Jets fell just short at 23-22. 

How it Happened:
The Tigers got out to a 4-0 lead after taking the 125 lb match by major decision at 16-3. Jevin Foust earned the Jets three points in the 133 lb match, after beating his opponent by decision at 8-1. In the next match, Trent Moses won in dominating fashion with a win by fall at 2:47. This pin by Moses gave the Jets the 9-4 advantage. In the 149 lb match, Colby Schreiner was down one point with ten seconds left in the third period. In the closing seconds, Schreiner was able to score three points off of a take down to win by decision at 9-7. This win gave the Jets a 12-4 lead heading into the 157 lb match. In the 157 lb, Hunter Dietrich battled his opponent until the closing seconds where the Tigers were able to score one point to take the 7-6 win. The Tigers left 165 lb open, giving Jace Fisher an automatic win for six points. This gave the Jets an 18-7 lead. The Tigers were able to cut into the Jets lead after a win by technical fall in the 174 lb match. The Tigers then closed out the 184 lb match with a technical fall, making the score 18-17 still in favor of the Jets with two matches left. Fort Hays State took the lead after taking the 197 lb match by fall at 4:20. This win gave Fort Hays the 23-18 advantage heading into the final match at 285 lb. Caleb Wunsch took the win at the 285 lb match by major decision at 12-0. However, his win only gave the Jets four points, allowing the Tigers to take the dual 23-22. 

The Jets are back in action on January 30th to face Friends University.
