MARYVILLE, Mo. – The Jets traveled to Missouri to face Northwest Missouri to open weekend play. Newman would fall short, 3-0.
How it Happened:
The Jets couldn't gain momentum in the first set, falling behind early. Northwest Missouri maintained control throughout, taking the opening set 25-8. Newman kept pace with the Bearcats to start the second set. Kills from
Avery Kelley,
Hannah Tymitz, and
Isabella Lamb cut the deficit to 10-8. Two aces by
Sky Miller brought the Jets within one at 11-10. However, the Bearcats responded with a 7-1 run to extend their lead to 18-11, forcing a Newman timeout. Following the break, Northwest Missouri closed out the set, 25-17.
The Jets battled in the third set, forcing extra points to extend play. After falling behind 13-6, Newman went on a 7-0 run to tie it at 13-all. The Bearcats regained a 15-13 lead, but the Jets answered again with kills from Lamb and Tymitz to even the score at 16-all. Newman continued their push with a 6-0 run to go up 21-16, fueled by kills from Miller and Lamb and a service ace by Tymitz. The Jets held a 23-20 advantage before Northwest Missouri rallied, taking a 24-23 lead. A Miller kill tied it at 24-all, but the Bearcats closed the set on a 2-0 run to win 26-24 and take the match 3-0.
