Jets Fall to MoWest in Saturday Matchup



ST. JOSEPH, MO. - The Jets faced off with MoWest on Saturday Afternoon, the Griffons took the match 3-0.  

How it Happened:
MoWest established control early, jumping ahead 5-2 after a service ace from Anna Weberg and a pair of kills by Taylor Russell. Newman stayed within reach as Avery Kelley and Hannah Tymitz found kills to make it 7-6, but the Griffons continued to build momentum behind a pair of kills, extending their lead to 15-10. The Jets trimmed the deficit to 15-11 following a Sky Miller kill, their closest margin of the set. MoWest responded quickly with a run fueled by another pair of kills to push the lead to 20-13. Newman struggled to slow the Griffons' attack as a final kill from Russell sealed the set, 25-17, giving the Griffons' the early advantage.

The Griffons opened the second set with a slight edge before Newman evened the score at 7-all behind a service ace from Sky Miller and a kill by Hannah Tymitz. The Griffons responded with a steady run to take a 15-11 lead, forcing the Jets to take a timeout. The Jets stayed within striking distance midway through the set as Avery Kelley and Isabella Lamb contributed key kills, but MoWest consistency kept them in control. The Jets cut the deficit to 23-21 after a kill from Miller, but the Griffons found a way to close the set out 25-22 to get out to a 2-0 lead in the match.

Newman started strong in the third set, taking an early lead behind kills from Hannah Tymitz and Madalyn Hoot. The Jets and MoWest traded points through the first half of the set, with the score even at 10-all. Kills from Miller and Lamb helped Newman edge ahead 15-14 before the Griffons answered to tie it again at 16-all. The set remained close as the Jets continued to battle. Newman pushed back from a 20-18 deficit to even the score at 20-all with key points from Lamb and Miller. The two teams traded points down the stretch, with Newman pulling even again at 23-all after a Tymitz kill. The Griffons'  regained control out of a Jet timeout, scoring the final two points to take the set 25-23 and close out the match, 3-0.


Player Notes: 
-Avery Kelley recorded 8 kills with a .438 hitting percentage.
-Madalyn Hoot tallied 26 assists.


The Jets will host Pittsburg State next Friday at 6 PM.
