Wichita- Emporia State made the short trip for a Thursday-night MIAA matchup with the Jets. Despite a battle in each set, the Hornets came away with a 3-0 win.
How it Happened:
The Jets battled point-for-point with Emporia State, pulling even at 14–14 after a
Hannah Tymitz kill. Newman grabbed a 16–15 lead on an ace from
Olivia Anderson-Stewart and went back in front moments later on an
Avery Kelley kill. But the Hornets answered with a late run and closed out the opening set, 25–18.
Newman came out and continued to show fight in the second set with early kills from Tymitz and
Isabella Lamb keeping the Jets within striking distance. The Jets continued to fight, using aces from Tymitz and
Brooklyn Lane to keep it close. Back to back kills from
Sky Miller tied the set at 14, but the Hornets responded with a surge of their own to take the second set 25-17.
The Jets found a rhythm in the third set, using a stretch of kills from Tymitz and Lamb along with a block from the pair to grab an 8-6 lead.
Sky Miller delivered an ace to keep the Jets within reach of the Hornets. Anderson-Stewart used an ace to bring the Jets within 1, but Emporia State closed the set and the match out with a late run, winning 25-20.Â
