WICHITA- The Jets hosted Missouri Southern for their last home game of the season. The Jets dominated the Lions with a 3-0 win.
How it Happened:
- The Jets were first to the board with an eighth minute goal by
Emma Kolbe. Kolbe put the ball away after the ball was deflected from a
Delphine Dzidzinyo Sosu shot. This gave the Jets the 1-0 lead. Newman would get multiple chances to net their second goal of the half, with four shots on goal. Kolbe led the Jets with two shots on goal in the half, with Sami Matsumoto and Sosu tallying one shot on goal a piece. On the back line,
Carla Apodaca helped the Jets keep the Lions off the board with five saves in the half. The Jets would hold their 1-0 lead heading into the halftime break.
- The Jets offense kept the momentum into the second half. A penalty kick was awarded to the Jets after a foul in the box by the Lions.
Lexi Bauer stepped up to the spot for the Jets and connected with a high middle shot to push the Jets lead to 2-0. Just a few minutes later, Sosu connected with a goal after Matsumoto and
Ariana Sweitzer found her on the run to net the Jets third goal of the game. With 17 minutes to play, Newman led 3-0. The back line held strong for the second half keeping the Lions scoreless with help from
Emma Lintecum who played the second 45 minutes in goal for Newman. The Jets would take the win, 3-0.
Player Notes:
- Sosu is now tied for fifth in Newman Women's Soccer history for most goals in a season (7).
- Kolbe added an assist and one goal.
- Bauer knocked in a penalty kick for the Jets, her first goal of the season.
Newman hits the road to wrap up regular season play. They will face Central Oklahoma on Wednesday at 7 PM in Edmond.
