Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Jets fall short in battle with No. 5 FHSU

WICHITA- Newman Men's Soccer hosted No.5 ranked Fort Hays State for Thursday night match up. Against the Tigers, Newman fell short 3-2. 

How it Happened: 
- Both the Jets and Tigers were held scoreless through the first half of play. In the first 45 minutes, the Jets outshot the Tigers 5-3. The Jets forced FHSU into two saves by the goalkeeper, with Francisco Pinochet recording two saves in the half for the Jets. The match would be tied at the half, 0-0. 
- The Jets broke the draw in the 49th minute. A goal by Yohsuke Ono would put Newman ahead 1-0. The assist would go to the goalkeeper, Pinochet after a long ball was played to Ono. The Jets would be next to score, with Daiki Okada netting the goal. Gabriel Dias Juliani was credited with the assist after a deflection found Okada inside the box. The Tigers would then score a goal in the 64th minute to cut the deficit to just one goal. In the 68th minute, FHSU would tie the game up at 2-2. Later, Juan Linares would hit the goal that pushed the Tigers on top for the first time in the game. The Jets would try to battle back and find the equalizer, but would run out of time. Newman fell just short to No. 5 FHSU, 3-2. 

Player Notes: 
- Okada netted his second goal of the season. 
- Ono scored his fourth goal of the year.
- Dias Juliani and Pinochet added one assist apiece. 

The Jets head out to face Northeastern State on Saturday at 6 PM, for their final regular season contest.
