Foust and Wunsch place at Midwest Classic

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.- The Jets traveled to Indianapolis to compete in the Midwest Classic. Foust secured a second-place finish, and Wunsch secured a seventh-place finish for the Jets. Overall, the Jets finished 16th with 55.5 team points.  

Jaxson Newcomb (125 lb) 

Newcomb opened Championship Round 1 with a 13-4 major decision over Giovanni Diaz of MCK. In Championship Round 2, he fell to Kaden Kuenzi of LAND by 17-1 technical fall at 6:43. Dropping into the consolation bracket, Newcomb rebounded in Consolation Round 2 with a 10-4 decision over Mason Moody of CC. His tournament came to a close in Consolation Round 3, where he lost by fall to Adonias Cantu of CMU, 3-0 at 2:01. 

  

Jevin Foust (133 lb) 

Foust opened Championship Round 1 with an 18-1 technical fall over Sean Campbell of ESU at 6:13. He followed that with a win in Championship Round 2, defeating Landon Evans of TMU by fall, 6-0 at 3:33. In Championship Round 3, Foust earned a 20-12 major decision over Brady Baker of UPJ. He advanced to the semifinals after winning by MFFL over Jimmy Anderson of OBU, 0-0, in the quarterfinal. In the semifinal, Foust secured a 7-1 fall at 6:34 over Nicholas Cottone of MILL. In the championship match, he dropped a close 6-5 decision to Jeremiah Echevarria of GU. After a strong showing at the Midwest Classic, Foust finished as the runner-up in the 133-pound bracket. 

  

Alexander Rodriguez (141 lb) 

Rodriguez opened the tournament with a first-round bye in Championship Round 1. In Championship Round 2, he fell by fall to Ethan Hardy of GSU, 3-0 at 1:30. Dropping into the consolation bracket, Rodriguez saw his tournament end in Consolation Round 2 with a technical fall loss at 4:16 to Eddie Bowman of CSU Pueblo. 

  

Elijah Means (157 lb) 

Means opened the tournament with a first-round bye in Championship Round 1. In Championship Round 2, he fell by technical fall to Easton Worachek of UWP, 18-3 at 5:29. Dropping into the consolation bracket, Means rebounded in Consolation Round 2 with a narrow 10-9 decision over Dharrin Smith of ALL. He continued his run in Consolation Round 3, earning a 12-11 fall at 6:58 over Zachary Russo of CC. Means' tournament came to an end in Consolation Round 4 with a 20-6 major decision loss to Brandon Paredes of CSC. 

  

Jayden Ford (165 lb) 

Ford opened Championship Round 1 with a 16-4 major decision loss to Brock Evans of FSU. He then received a bye before dropping into the consolation bracket. In Consolation Round 2, Ford rebounded with a fall at 2:14 over Josh Alert of UB. He continued his run in Consolation Round 3, earning a 3-0 fall at 2:33 over William Alvarado of CMU. Ford's tournament came to an end in Consolation Round 4 with a 5-1 decision loss to Caden Jacobs of GVSU. 

Skyler Geer (174 lb) 

Geer opened the tournament with two byes before making his first appearance in Championship Round 2. In that match, he fell by technical fall to Cole Ritter of MU, 17-2 at 5:46. Dropping into the consolation bracket, Geer rebounded in Consolation Round 3 with a 4-2 decision over MacAllister Chambers of QU. His tournament came to an end in Consolation Round 4, where he lost by technical fall to Dillon Walker of GU, 19-3 at 4:57. 

   

Chris Mapp (184 lb) 

Mapp opened Championship Round 1 with an 11-1 major decision loss to Donn Greer of CSU Pueblo. He then received a bye before dropping into the consolation bracket. In Consolation Round 2, Mapp's tournament came to an end with a loss by fall to Braxton Westendorf of UIU, 10-3 at 4:06. 

Erik Tomanek (197 lb) 

Tomanek opened Championship Round 1 with an 8-1 loss by fall to Xander Kenworthy of SMSU at 2:42. He then received a bye before moving into the consolation bracket. In Consolation Round 2, Tomanek rebounded with a 12-3 major decision over Rhett Walters of UM. He continued his run in Consolation Round 3, earning a 5-0 fall at 4:10 over Christopher Jeudy of UB. Tomanek's tournament came to an end in Consolation Round 4 with an 8-2 loss by fall to Bradley Morrison of UPJ at 3:48. 

  

Caleb Wunsch (285 lb) 

Wunsch opened Championship Round 1 with a fall over Andrew Dupree of DAV, 3-0 at 1:05. He followed with a 2-0 decision over Henry Sturn of CSU Pueblo in Championship Round 2, then advanced again in Championship Round 3 with a 3-0 fall at 0:12 over Mikey Little of SAL. In the quarterfinal, Wunsch fell by 5-1 decision to Luke Tweeton of UMARY. Dropping into the consolation bracket, he rebounded in Consolation Round 6 with a 4-0 decision over BK Seago of OBU. In Consolation Round 7, Wunsch suffered a 14-5 major decision loss to Jake Powell of TU. He closed out his tournament strong in the seventh-place match, earning a 3-0 fall at 2:24 over Guilian Bodiu of UF to secure a seventh-place finish. 

 
 
The Jets will start the new year at home at the Jet Open on Jan 4th.
