Jets drop non-conference matchup to Bearcats

WICHITA- The Jets hosted GLVC opponent Southwest Baptist. Men's Basketball would fall short, 95-74. 

How it Happened:
- The Jets and Bearcats opened play evenly to the under ten minute media mark. At the media break, the Jets trailed  23-17. SBU would be able to hit five straight three-pointers to take their lead to 40-26 with just under five minutes to play. The Jets continued to battle, a three by Brandon Wilson kept the Jets within 11 points. A basket by Thatcher McClure closed the gap to 42-31 with under four to play. A 5-0 run with 2:33 left in the half pushed SBU to a 47-31 lead. Sam Somerhalder scored his 11th point of the night to end the run by the Bearcats. Another three-pointer by the Bearcats pushed their lead to 50-33. The Jets would end the half on a 4-0 run, cutting the deficit to 50-37. The Bearcats hit 13-18 from behind the arc in the opening half, hitting at 72.2%. Somerhalder led the Jets in the first half with 11 points. 
- Out of the halftime break, Deacon Courtney scored the first two baskets for the Jets. However, the Bearcats would put together a 7-0 run taking them to a 59-41 lead with 17 minutes to play. A McClure three ended this offensive surge by SBU. McClure would follow this up with another basket, taking the deficit to 13 points. The Bearcats ended the Jets run with another three-pointer, but McClure answered again with another basket. Later, Somerhalder would score four straight for the Jets to take the score to 67-52 with 12 minutes to play. Another small offensive push by the Bearcats took their lead to 20 points. Wilson would connect on an and-one to end this run. Wilson would then sink two more free throws to complete a 5-0 run, taking the score to 72-57. SBU would answer this with a 7-0 run, taking their lead to 22 points. Newman would continue to battle, but the Bearcats continued their hot streak from behind the arc. The Jets would surge with an 8-0 run with points from Kobe Freeman and Trae Clayton. This run put the Jets down 86-70 with four minutes to play. The Bearcats found one last surge, 5-0, to push their lead out to 21 with 3:30 to go. The Jets would try to battle back, but the deficit was too large. Newman would fall short, 95-74.

Player Notes:
- Somerhalder led Newman with 19 points, grabbing five rebounds. 
- McClure hit 15 points, going 6-9 from the field. 
- Courtney and Wilson both tallied ten points. 
- Southewest Baptist hit 20 threes in the game, breaking the record of most threes scored against the Jets. 

The Jets are back in action on December 21st in Ada, Oklahoma to take on East Central at 3:30 PM.
