Wrestling opens conference against ranked Bronchos

EDMOND, Okla.- Newman Wrestling traveled to Oklahoma to take on No.3//No.7 ranked Central Oklahoma. The Bronchos are also ranked No. 1 in tournament rankings via The Open Mat. To open conference play, the Jets fell 52-0.

Jaxcon Newcomb opened the contest for the Jets at 125 lbs against No. 6 Guy Clevenger. The Bronchos claimed six points with a fall at 5:39. At 133 lbs, Jevin Foust faced top-ranked Jason Henschel, who took the match 10-0 major decision. At 141 lbs, Alex Rodriguez was pinned at 3:42 by No. 8 Josh Taylor. This extended UCO's lead to 16-0. The Jets forfeited the 149-lb match, pushing the score to 22-0. Elijah Means then took on No. 1 Gabe Johnson at 157 lbs, falling by technical fall (17-2, 2:25) as UCO expanded its lead to 27-0. At 165 lbs, Jayden Ford lost by technical fall, 16-1. In the 174-lb match, Chris Mapp wrestled No. 8 Hunter Jump, who earned a fall at 2:07. Skyler Geer stepped in at 184 lbs against No. 5 Branson Britten, with the Bronchos adding five more points via technical fall. Erik Tomanek then faced No. 3 Garrett Wells at 197 lbs, dropping the match by technical fall (18-1, 4:57). To close out the dual, De'Leon Freeman competed against Ryan Nichols at 285 lbs, falling by major decision, 13-5.

The Jets would fall to the ranked Bronchos, 52-0.
