Men's Basketball falls to UAFS

WICHITA- Men's Basketball hosted Arkansas-Fort Smith to cap off opening weekend of MIAA play. The Jets fell to RV Arkansas- Fort Smith, 89-59. 

How it Happened: 
- The Jets and Lions were tied at 5-5, until UAFS found an offensive surge. The Lions put together a 12-0 run to secure a 19-5 lead with 14:30 to play. A basket by Jacob Joe ended this Lions run. A short 5-0 run by the Lions pushed UAFS to a 24-7 lead. Sam Somerhalder scored his first basket of the game to stop this run by the Lions. Later, an and-one by Deacon Courtney put the score at 28-16. Another basket by Courtney kept the Jets within 13 points at 31-18. A 5-0 run by UAFS took the Lions to a 36-18 lead with 6:30 to play. The Jets pieced together a 4-0 run to cut into the deficit with 4:30 to play. Joe scored his tenth point of the day to cut another Lions run short. The last score of the half would be a free throw by Joe to put the score at 47-29, with Newman trailing. Joe led Newman in the first half with 12 points, shooting 2-3 from behind the arc and 4-6 from the field. 
- Five minutes into the second half, the Lions had taken their lead to 64-35. The Lions offensive surges continued in the final half of play making it difficult for the Jets to rally. 
The Lions lead would stretch to 76-41 at the halfway mark. A 6-0 run by the Jets would give the offense some energy, with scores by Brandon Wilson and Courtney. With just over six to play, the Jets trailed 76-47. With just under four to go, Courtney netted his 11th point of the contest. Though the Jets continued to battle, Newman was unable to cut into the deficit. The Jets would fall to the Lions, 89-59. 

Player Notes: 
- Joe led the Jets with 14 points, going 2-4 from three and 4-8 from the field. 
- Courtney added 11 points shooting 50% from the field, adding six rebounds. 
- Wilson scored ten points. 

The Jets are back in action on December 13th where they will host Kansas Christian at 3 PM.
