WICHITA- Men's Basketball hosted Fort Hays State. This is the Jets and Tigers first matchup of the season. Against the Tigers, the Jets fell 76-68.
How it Happened:
- The Tigers forced the Jets into a quick timeout after starting the game with a 6-2 run. After the timeout from the Jets, a free throw by
Deadric Fikes and a basket by
Sam Somerhalder brought the Jets within one point. On the next Jets possession a three-pointer by
Jordan Glenn-Hawkins tied the game. The Jets took the lead back with free throws by
Thatcher McClure. The Tigers were able to take back the lead with a short 4-0 run, putting the TIgers up 12-10. On the next Jets possession, McClure hit from behind the arc to give the Jets a 13-12 lead at the 15 minute mark.
Aaron Murphy scored his first points to extend the Jets lead to three points. A minute later, the Tigers had retaken the lead with another 4-0 run. Murphy scored the next points with an and one that stole the lead back the lead again. Baskets by Somerhalder and Murphy took the Jets lead out to four points with 9:30 to play. Both teams were scoreless until the 6:32 mark with a free throw by
Aime Rutayisire. The Tigers were able to bring the game back to a two point game at the five minute mark, but a basket by McClure gave the Jets a four point lead again at 25-21. The Tigers were able to tie the game at 25 all, but McClure hit another bucket to put the Jets up 27-25 at the half.
- Out of the halftime break, the Tigers were able to go on a 9-0 run to take the lead at 34-27. This run by FHSU forced the Jets to call a timeout with 17:30 to go. Out of the timeout, Glenn-Hawkins scored the first basket of the second half for the Jets. The Tigers scored on the next possession, but Murphy brought the Jets back within five after connecting with his ninth point of the game. Murphy then hit a three-pointer to bring the Jets back within three. The Tigers continued to score to keep their lead on the offensive end, but the Jets continued to battle back. However, by the 12 minute mark, the Tigers had built a 45-37 lead. Murphy was later rewarded with three free throws, where he connected with all three to bring the Jets back within five points. At the seven minute mark, the Tigers had grown their lead to ten points at 55-45. Murphy cut the Tigers lead to seven after hitting from behind the arc.
Jayden Schoen then hit a three to follow Murphy's, taking the score to 555-51 at the final media break. Out of the media break, the Tigers hit a three to take their lead back to seven.
Devin Walker hit one free throw to take it to a six point deficit, but the Tigers answered with another three to take the score to 61-52 with just over four minutes to play. With just under a minute to play, Somerhalder added two free throws to make it an eight point game. The Jets ran out of time to complete a comeback. Fort Hays State took the contest, 76-68.

The Jets stay at home next weekend to face Emporia State on Saturday at 3:30 PM for Senior Day.
