WICHITA- Jets hosted Northeastern State to kick off MIAA play. The Jets played a doubleheader today due to weather this past week. In game one the Jets fell 12-5. In game two, the Jets fell 13-6.
Game one: NU 5, NSU 12
- The Riverhawks were quick to score, with a single to kick off the top of the first inning followed by a hit by pitch, wild pitch, and walk that put the Riverhawks across the plate for the early 1-0 lead. The Jets were unable to answer in the bottom of the inning, after being held to no hits. In the top of the second inning, the Riverhawks scored three runs with two hits and one error by the Jets. The Jets defense escaped the inning, leaving three Riverhawks on base. In the bottom of the inning, two walks got the Jets on base to start the offense off. A single to right field by
Nicolas Ely pushed the Jets first run across the plate to make it a 4-1 ball game. NSU was able to extend their lead with a solo home run in the top of the third inning to make it 5-1. The Jets were retired in order in the bottom of the third inning, unable to cut into the four run deficit.
- In the fourth inning, the Jets held the Riverhawks to no runs and no hits with
Cole Landgraf on the mound. In the bottom of the inning,
Micah Kobuszewski singled to center field, followed by a single by
Trent Trammell. Later, a single by Ely pushed Kobuszewski across the plate to make it 5-2 in favor of NSU. The Riverhawks extended their lead later in the fifth inning with two runs scored to make it 7-2. The next score came in the bottom of the sixth inning with a three-run home run by
Hunter Brown to cut the score to 7-5, still in favor of the Riverhawks. In the top of the seventh inning, the Riverhawks added one more run to make it an 8-5 lead.
- The next score came by the Riverhawks in the top of the eighth inning when they added three runs to make it an 11-5 game. The Jets were held scoreless in the bottom half of the inning. Then in the top of the ninth inning, the Riverhawks offense continued to roll, adding another run to make it 12-5. In the bottom of the ninth inning, with one out, Kobuszewski doubled to right field to try and give the Jets offense some life. Mitchell walked with two outs, to put runners on first and second. The Jets loaded the bases after a walk, but the Riverhawks escaped the inning to take the 12-5 win.

- Kobuszewski went 2-5 from the plate with one double.
- Ely went 3-3 from the plate with two RBIs and scored one run.
- Brown brought in 3 RBIS with a home run.
Game 2: NU 6, NSU 13
- NSU was first to score in the top of the second inning with four hits scoring four runs. In the bottom of the inning, with two outs Brown singled to third base. Then
Eli Wohl walked, putting runners at first and second. Kobuszewski then singled to right field which scored Brown to make it a 4-1 game in favor of the Riverhawks. Both teams were held scoreless in the third and fourth inning.
- In the top of the fifth inning ,the Riverhawks offense was able to get rolling. With a double to lead off the inning, followed by a single, NSU scored their fifth run to make it 5-1. The next batter singled to center to bat another Riverhawks run in. This made it 6-1 Riverhawks. The Riverhawks added four more runs in the inning with a triple and a double to make it 9-1 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning. The Riverhawks were able to shut out the Jets in the bottom of the fifth inning to head into the sixth inning up 10-1. Mitchell walked to start the bottom of the sixth inning.
Jack Kiser then doubled to right field which pushed Mitchell to third base. A sacrifice fly by
Louis Coca scored Mitchell to make it 10-2. Another sacrifice fly by the Jets pushed Kiser across the plate to make it 10-3. The seventh inning brought in two more runs for the Riverhawks to give them a 12-3 lead. Then, in the bottom of the inning the Jets reached base by a few walks. A wild pitch by the Riverhawks allowed the Jets to score their fourth run. Heading into the eighth inning, the Riverhawks held the 12-4 lead.
- A home run by NSU in the top of the eighth inning gave them the 13-4 lead. The Jets offense cut into the Riverhawks lead in the bottom of the eighth. The inning started with three walks. Then with bases loaded,
Anthony Cannavino singled to right field that scored two runs to make it 13-6. The Riverhawks escaped the inning after allowing two runs. The Jets defense held NSU to just one hit and turned a double play to end the top of the ninth. In the bottom of the ninth,
Louis Coca doubled with one out to try to get the Jets bats rolling. However, the Riverhawks defense was able to close out the game. The Riverhawks would take the game, 13-6.

The Jets are back tomorrow at noon for game three against NSU.
