Baseball drops midweek contest to the Rangers

Jets fall 12-5 in Oklahoma

ALVA, Okla.- The Jets traveled to Oklahoma to face Northwestern Oklahoma State in their first midweek contest of the year. This past weekend, the Jets picked up their first win of the season against Southern Nazarene on Friday. Against the Rangers, the Jets fell 12-5. 

How it Happened:
- The Jets were held scoreless in the first inning, with three batters up and down. In the bottom of the first inning, the Rangers were first to score after a double to right field with bases loaded scored three runs to make it  3-0. The Rangers then added two more runs to their lead after a walk and hit by pitch with the  bases loaded. The bottom half of the inning ended with the Rangers up 5-0. In the top of the second inning, Micah Kobuszewski walked. Then Trent Trammell singled to right field that advanced Kobuszewski to third base. A wild pitch allowed Kobuszewski to score to make the score 5-1. Then, a single by Nicolas Ely put Trammell across the plate to make it a 5-2 game heading into the third inning. In the third inning, the Jets were held scoreless. In the bottom half of the inning, the Jets defense faced three batters and put them all out to keep the score at 5-2.
-The Jets offense couldn't get going in the top of the fourth inning, recording no hits and not being able to get any runners on. In the bottom half of the inning, the Jets defense stepped up. Kellen Curtis struck two batters out and one Ranger popped out to retire the inning. To start off the fifth inning, Ely singled up the middle. Ely then advanced to second after a sacrifice bunt by Hunter Brown moved him. Eli Wohl then grounded out to second, but was able to move Ely to third base and in scoring position with two outs. However, the Rangers were able to escape the inning without giving up a run. Cole Landgraf entered the fifth inning to pitch. Landgraff struck one out, with two others grounding out to end the inning.In the top of the sixth inning, Trammell singled to the shortstop with two outs. He then stole second, putting him in scoring position with Blake Mitchell up to the plate. Mitchell sailed the ball over the fence for a two run home run. This home run put the deficit at just 5-4. The Rangers were able to load the bases in the bottom half of the inning. A single up the middle by the Rangers scored two, leaving two on base, and taking their lead out to 7-4. The Rangers then added three more runs, unearned, to take the 10-4 lead.
- Ely led off the seventh inning with a single up the middle. Ely later stole second base to put himself in scoring position with two outs. The Rangers escaped the inning allowing no runs and forcing the Jets to leave one runner on. In the top of the seventh inning, the Rangers added two runs after an RBI double to make it 12-4. With the bases loaded and one out, the Jets turned a double play to end the inning. Both the Jets and Rangers were scoreless in the eighth inning. In the top of the ninth inning the Jets were able to score one off of errors by the Rangers, but could not complete the comeback. The Jets fell, 12-5. 

Player Notes:
- Ely went 3-3 from the plate with one RBI. 
- Trammell went 3-4 from the plate with two runs scored. 
- Mitchell hit a home run for two RBIs. 

The Jets hit the road this weekend to face Colorado Christian on Friday for a double header at 11 AM and 2PM and Saturday at 12 PM.
