MULVANE, Kan.- The Jets faced Labette CC in the Battle of the Belt at the Kansas Star Casino. The Jets defeated the Cardinals, 30-20.
The Cardinals started the day off with an open 125 lb slot, giving
Dylan Sheler the automatic win. This gave the Jets a 6-0 lead to start. Labette CC then got the win in the 133 lb match by a fall at 3:25 over
Keton Patterson. The Cardinals then took the 144 lb match by technical fall over
Trent Moses to make the score 11-6 in favor of the Cardinals.
Colby Schreiner picked up a win for the Jets in the 149 lb match, winning by decision at 9-2, making the dual score 11-9 still in favor of Labette. Then,
Hunter Dietrich picked up a win in the 157 lb match with a win by fall at 2:48. This took the lead back from the Cardinals, putting the Jets on top 15-11.
Jace Fisher continued with the Jets momentum and took his win at the 165 lb match by fall at 4:07. This extended Newman's lead to 21-11. The next Jet win came from
Skyler Geer in the 174 lb match. Geer beat his opponent by decision at 7-1, giving the Jets a lead of 24-11. The Cardinals tried to battle back, taking both the 184 lb match and the 197 lb match. These back-to-back wins by the Cardinals put the score at 24-20.
Caleb Wunsch was able to close out the match for the Jets, taking his match by fall at just 0:38. The Jets took the dual, 30-20.
