UAFS takes game two of the series against Jets

Mitchell led the Jets with five RBIs in loss to Lions

FORT SMITH, Ark.- The Jets faced the Lions for the second game of the three game series. The Lions took the first match up yesterday in an 18-7 game through 7 innings. Today the Jets fell just short at 13-10. 

How it Happened:
- Fort Smith was first to the board with three runs in the bottom of the first inning to get the 3-0 lead. The Jets offense was able to respond in the top of the second inning with Pierson Gunnell starting off with a single to left field. Blake Mitchell followed this up with a single of his own to put the Jets on first and second. A sacrifice fly by Nick Chasey scored Gunell to cut the Lions lead to 3-1. In the bottom half of the inning, Aleks Koppel struck out two to help the Jets keep the game at 3-1. The Jets continued to chip away at the Lions lead. In the top of the third inning, Eli Wohl singled. Later in the inning a double by Trent Trammell scored Wohl to make it just a one point deficit heading into the bottom half of the inning. 
- The Lions were able to respond with four runs in the bottom of the third inning to take the 7-2 lead. Mitchell connected with a home run to left center to kick off the fourth inning to make it 7-3.
In the bottom half of the inning, the Lions were able to add one more to make it 8-3. Newman continued to battle. Wohl singled which was followed by a Micah Kobuszewski single. A walk and fielder's choice led to the bases being loaded. A double from Mitchell scored three for the Jets to cut it to an 8-6 game. Though the Jets cut into the deficit, in the bottom half of the fifth inning the Lions were able to put more runs on the board. A few walks by the Jets put runners on that would be batted in to make it a 10-6 lead for UAFS. UAFS was next to score with a run in the bottom of the sixth inning to extend their lead to 11-6. 
-The Jets continued to roll and chip away at the lead. Kobuszewski doubled to start off the top of the seventh. Gunnell later doubled to left field to score the Jets seventh run. Then, a Mitchell single scored the Jets eighth run. A few batters later, Hunter Brown doubled and scored two for the Jets to close it to just a one point deficit at 11-10. Though the Jets cut it to a one run game, UAFS was able to bat two runs across the plate in the bottom half of the inning to make it 13-10. 
-The Lions defense was able to hold the Jets scoreless through the eighth and ninth innings. UAFS took game two of the series, 10-13. 

Player Notes:
- Mitchell led the Jets with five RBIs through four hits and two runs scored.
- Brown brought in two RBIs. 
- Five different Jets hit doubles. 

The Jets return tomorrow for the series finale against the Lions.
