Baseball drops series at Emporia

Emporia, Kan. -The Jets faced the Emporia State Hornets in the second game of their three-game conference series. After an ESU win on Friday, the Hornets secured the series win with an 8-0 victory.

How It Happened:
Colby Wilson started on the mound for Newman for the second time this season. Two errors, three hits and a couple of free bases scored six Hornet runs in the bottom of the first inning. Blake Mitchell continued his great form hitting a double, but no more Jets were able to get on base in the second. Wilson got his second and third strike out of the game to end the second frame. Nick Ely earned a lead off walk in the top of the third but the Jets were unable to score him. Another error scored ESU's seventh run before the end of the third. Both teams went hitless and scoreless in the fourth.

In the fifth inning, Fran Montanez replaced Wilson on the mound and struck out the first batter he faced. In the sixth frame, Chan Yoon came into the game to pitch for the Jets. He only allowed one hit, but that runner was scored off of a sacrifice fly out to record the Hornets eighth run of the game. Micah Kobuszewski and Trent Trammell hit back to back singles in the top of the seventh. Then, Blake Mitchell reached base on a fielder's choice, but the Hornets recorded the third out before Newman could score. Gavin Wakefield came out of the bullpen for Newman in the bottom of the seventh and held the Hornets hitless. Jack Kiser earned a lead off walk in the top of the eighth. Sutton Titsworth threw for Newman in the bottom of the eighth and didn't allow any runs. The Hornets recorded three outs in the top of the ninth frame to end the game and claim the series.
