Jets head home to face NWOSU on Tuesday

EMPORIA, Kan.- The Jets faced Emporia State for the third game of the series. The Hornets were able to secure the series on Saturday. Today, the Jets fell just short at 10-5.

How it Happened:
- The Hornets were first to score in the bottom of the first inning with a home run, giving the Hornets an early lead at 1-0. ESU was able to tack two more runs to their lead in the bottom of the second to make it 3-0. The Jets first hit came in the top of the third inning with a single by Hunter Brown, but the Jets offense could not score the run. The Hornets kept the lead at 3-0. In the top of the fifth inning, Thomas Munn led off the inning with a double. Nicolas Ely was able to push Munn over to third base with a fielder's choice and an error by the Hornets defense. A sac fly by Brown scored the Jets first run of the game, making it 3-1. Eli Wohl then pushed Ely across the plate to make it 3-2. ESU responded in the bottom half of the inning with three hits that scored three runs. These runs made it a 6-2 Hornets lead at the end of five innings. The next score came from the Hornets in the bottom of the seventh with their second home run of the game. This made it 8-2 still in favor of Emporia State. The Hornets were able to tack on one more run in the bottom of the seventh to make it a 9-2 game.
- The Jets started a rally in the top of the eighth inning. Two walks started off the inning for Newman. Later, a single by Micah Kobuszewski loaded the bases for the Jets. Then, a double by Blake Mitchell scored all three runners to take the deficit to just four runs at 9-5. The Hornets defense was able to escape the inning, allowing three runs off of two hits. ESU was able to record one more run in the bottom of the eighth to take their lead out to 10-5. Munn led off the ninth inning with a single to center field, but that was the only hit the Jets could record in the top of the ninth. The Hornets took game three, 10-5.
