Rangers beat Jets in midweek non-conference matchup

WICHITA - Newman hosted Northwestern Oklahoma State at McCarthy Field for a midweek non-conference matchup. After a 5-12 NWOSU win in their first meeting this season, the Rangers also won the second game 12-2.

How It Happened:
Brycen Schoenhofer started on the mound for Newman. Two doubles, a single and an error helped the Rangers take an early 3-0 lead. Newman answered in the bottom of the first. Eli Wohl and Hunter Brown earned walks to get two runners on base with no outs recorded. Micah Kobuszewski capitalized on the opportunity and batted in both runners with a single to center field. In the second frame, Caden Poor pitched for Newman. NWOSU scored their fourth run off of two hits and two free bases. The Jets were able to hold off the Rangers to only one run, leaving three runners on base. Louis Coca earned a walk but the Jets were not able to score him. Cole Landgraf substituted Poor on the mound in the third. The Rangers scored six runs aided by two home runs, four Jet errors and a single. In the middle of the third the score was 10-2. Only Hunter Brown was able to get on base for Newman in the bottom half of the third frame. Fran Montanez entered the game for Landgraf in the fourth. Two hits and an error increased the difference between the Rangers and the Jets to ten. Montanez struck out a batter before the end of the half inning. Blake Mitchell got on base, walking, but Newman was unsuccessful to score him.

The fifth inning saw Lance Elsen pitch for Newman, a double by the Rangers and a walk by Anthony Cannavino. In the sixth inning, Lance Elsen was subbed for Mac Collins. Collins and the Jets defense held Northwestern Oklahoma State down to no hits or runs. Blake Mitchell and Nick Chasey hit singles, and then, a walk by Coca loaded the bases for the Jets, but a good defensive effort by the Rangers denied them from scoring.
