Sixth inning decides series opener in Edmond

Brown hits fifth homer of the season

Edmond, Okla. - The Jets traveled to Edmond to face the UCO Bronchos in another MIAA matchup. After dropping their non-conference game against the Rangers on Tuesday, the Jets weren't able to get the win in the series opener either, losing 6-12.

How It Happened:
Eli Wohl was hit by the pitch in the first at bat of the game for Newman. Then, Nick Chasey hit a single that advanced Wohl to third. Trent Trammell also got on base with an earned walk, but the Jets weren't able to score any of the runners. The Bronchos got on the board first with a two-run homer to left center field. Aleks Koppel started on the mound for Newman and ended the first inning with a strike out. In the second frame only the Bronchos were able to get a hit. Koppel got his second strike out before the end of the inning. The third inning went hitless and scoreless for both teams.

A lead off single by Micah Kobuszewski started the top of the fourth inning. Trammell joined him on the bags with another single hit. Then, Nick Ely's double scored both runners to tie the game at twos. Koppel recorded three strikeouts in the bottom of the fourth, but the Bronchos were able to score another two-run home run to take a 2-4 before the end of the inning. In the fifth, Nick Chasey got on base with an earned walk and was later scored by Kobuszewski's single through the right side. Koppel struck out two more batters in the bottom of the fifth to put his tally at seven. Hunter Brown gave the first lead of the game to Newman with a three-run homer that scored Kiser, who got on base with a single, and Thomas Munn, who got on base with a walk. Newman led 6-4 after Brown's fifth bomb of the year. Fran Montanez and Jared Newton pitched for Newman in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Bronchos answered right back and regained the lead with a game deciding half inning. UCO scored eight runs from three singles, a double, a triple, and a couple free bases. Through six innings, the score was 6-12.

Trammell got on base with a single hit in the top of the seventh, but the Jets couldn't score him to cut down the lead. Caden Poor substituted Newton on the mound. Three walks and a sacrifice fly scored the Bronchos' thirteenth run of the game. Nick Ely got a lead off walk in the top of the eighth. Then, a double by Hunter Brown scored the seventh Jet run. Wohl's single and Chasey's ground out scored Brown to set the score at 8-13. Gavin Wakefield came in the game for Poor. Three free bases and a fielder's choice scored another run for UCO.
