Edmond, Okla. -Baseball played the second game of their three-game series against Central Oklahoma on Saturday afternoon. After losing the series opener yesterday, the Jets conceded the second game to the Bronchos, 5-17.
How It Happened:
Eli Wohl and
Micah Kobuszewski got on base with a single each in the top of the first frame, but good defense from the Bronchos denied them from scoring.
Colby Wilson started on the mound for Newman and struck out two of the four batters he faced in the bottom of the first. A lead off homer by
Blake Mitchell gave the Jets the first lead of the game. Then, after an earned walk by
Jack Kiser,
Hunter Brown's second home run in as many games increased Newman's lead to 3-0. Wilson and his defense didn't allow any hits or runs in the bottom half of the second. In the top half of the third, only Chasey was able to get a hit for Newman, but the Jets couldn't score him. Then, in the bottom of the third, three singles, a walk, and an error scored three runs for the Bronchos to tie the game at threes. After that, two doubles and a sacrifice fly gave UCO a 3-6 lead after three innings played.
The Jets couldn't answer in the top of the fourth and saw how the Bronchos capitalized on their momentum and scored seven runs off of two triples, a single, and a four-run homer.
Cole Landgraf substituted Wilson halfway through the half inning. After four the score was 3-13. In the fifth, a double by
Thomas Munn, a single by Wohl, and a single by
Trent Trammell scored two runs for the Jets.
Kellen Curtis came in the game for Landgraf in the bottom of the fifth. Then, UCO went on to score four runs from a single and a three-run home run, leaving the score at 5-17. The sixth inning only saw
Louis Coca hit a single for the Jets and
