Last Time Out
Newman hosted the ranked Fort Hays State Tigers last week in a series that ended with a doubleheader on Friday. The Jets took game one, 9-15 coming back after trailing by five early in the game. Newman scored seven runs in the bottom of the eighth to take a final six-run lead. Hunter Brown, Blake Mitchell, and Pierson Gunnell all hit home runs, with Brown hitting two. Mitchell recorded two hits, scored two runs and batted five runners in. Anthony Cannavino and Brown both tallied three hits and combined for five RBIs. Aleks Koppel started on the mound for Newman and recorded eight strike outs. Then, Fran Montanez earned the win going for 2.1 innings, getting four strike outs and allowing only one hit. The Tigers won both games in the Friday doubleheader, 8-0 and 12-6, to claim the series. The Jets led the decider until the top of the seventh when FHSU scored six runs. Nick Chasey hit two home runs that scored four runs. Gio De Graauw struck out eight batters. 
 
Scouting the Jets 
Trent Trammell continues to be the leader in the Jets offense with a .376 batting average. Trammell has posted 53 hits on 141 at bats, with two home runs, five doubles, and 20 RBIs. Blake Mitchell has a .331 batting average with 12 doubles, 49 RBIs, nine home runs, and has scored 29 times. Mitchell leads the Jets in OPS with 1.007. Micah Kobuszewski brings in a .340 batting average with a .951 OPS, 49 hits, 12 doubles, 35 RBIs, one triple, and three home runs. On the mound for the Jets, Gio De Graauw leads with a 4.65 ERA. De Graauw has posted three wins in 12 appearances with 60 innings pitched and 63 total strikeouts. Colby Wilson has a 8.02 ERA with 17 appearances and three wins. Wilson has also earned two saves on the season with 55 innings pitched and 37 strikeouts. Aleks Koppel has recorded 44 strikeouts with a 10.43 ERA. Koppel has appeared in eleven games with 48.1 innings pitched. 
 
Behind Enemy Lines
Washburn has an overall record of 22-23 and a 15-17 conference record. The Ichabods faced the No. 19 Pittsburg State Gorillas last week in a three-game conference series played in Pittsburg, Kansas. They beat the ranked Gorillas, 9-6 in the second game, but dropped the other two games surrendering the series to PSU. The Ichabods will play two midweek games against NWOSU and Central Missouri before hosting the Jets for their last home series of the season. In their second game against the Gorillas, the Ichabods took the 9-6 win scoring three runs in the last three innings. Payton McHarg went 2-3 from the plate, scored three runs and batted four in. Jackson Mervosh and Owen Laessing both recorded three hits. Mervosh leads the Ichabods with a .353 batting average. He has posted 65 hits, 20 doubles, nine home runs, and 48 RBIs. Jett Buck leads WU in RBIs with 60 total. Buck has posted a .349 batting average, 1.137 OPS, 67 hits, 15 doubles and 19 home runs. On the mound for the Ichabods, Caden Bressler leads with a 4.44 ERA through 14 appearances with three wins. Bressler has 23 total strikeouts on the year through 52.2 innings pitched. Caleb Lunnon has posted a 4.61 ERA with a 4-0 record. Lunnon has a total of 54.2 innings pitched with 37 strikeouts. 
 
The Series
The Jets trail in the series against WU with a 7-13 record. Newman took the series last season, with wins in game one and game two of the series. Game one went to extra innings and ended 10-9 in favor of the Jets, and game two saw Newman clinch the series with a 12-11 win.
 
Next Up
The Jets will host Central Missouri in their last home series of the season next weekend starting at 3 PM on May 1st.
