TOPEKA, Kan.- The Jets faced the Ichabods for game two of the series. Washburn took the second game and secured the series with a 4-3 win.
How it Happened:
The Jets offense was quick to find runs in the opening inning. Eli Wohl led off the inning with a single. Anthony Cannavino followed this with a double, putting runners at second and third. Later, Trent Trammell would bat in Wohl to give the Jets a 1-0 lead. Then, a sacrifice fly from Micah Kobuszewski scored Cannavino and the Jets second run. Heading into the bottom of the first inning, Newman had the 2-0 lead. Colby Wilson and the Jets defense faced three batters in the bottom of the first, and retired them all to keep the Jets lead at two. The Ichabods would record their first hit in the bottom of the second, but were unable to cut into the Jets two run lead. Wilson would allow just three hits through four innings played. In the fifth inning, the Ichabods cut into the deficit. A solo home run made it a 2-1 contest. The Jets offense answered back in the top of the sixth inning. Kobuszewski and Mitchell were both hit by pitch to start off the inning. Nicolas Ely would later single that scored Kobuszewski to take the Jets lead to 3-1. The Ichabods hit their second home run of the day in the bottom of the sixth to make it a one run game. Later in the inning, the Ichabods took their first lead of the game by a Jets defensive error. The Ichabods would snag the lead at 4-3 with three innings to play. The Jets held the Ichabods to just one hit in the seventh and eighth innings, but NU could not get the bats rolling on the offensive end. The Ichabods took the game and series with a 4-3 win.
