Baseball comes up short in game three against Washburn

Ichabods take game three, 4-3

TOPEKA, Kan.- The Jets faced the Ichabods for game three of the series. The Ichabods took the series finale, 4-3. 

How it Happened: 
- The Jets took the early lead in the first inning. Anthony Cannavino reached by an Ichabods defensive error. Cannavino would later reach second on a wild pitch. Eli Wohl then earned a walk to put runners on first and second. A single by Micah Kobuszewski loaded the bases. Cannavino would then score after a grounder by Pierson Gunnell to make it 1-0. Gio De Graauw made the start on the mound for the Jets, striking out one in the bottom of the first and retiring all three batters. The Jets were held scoreless in the second, but in the bottom half of the inning De Graauw struck out two and kept the Ichabods hitless to keep the 1-0 lead. The Jets recorded two hits in the top of the third, with a single by Wohl and Gunnell, but could not bat around a run. De Graauw continued his dominance on the mound, striking out one in the bottom of the third and retiring all three batters. The Ichabods recorded their first hits in the bottom of the fourth, but the Jets defense forced Washburn to leave three runners on. The Jets held the 1-0 lead through four innings. 
- In the top of the fifth inning, Wohl singled which was then followed by a Kobuszewski double. This put runners on second and third. Then, Gunnell connected with a double of his own that scored Wohl and Kobuszewski. This put the Jets lead at 3-0. De Graauw struck out two more Ichabods in the bottom of the fifth to help keep the Jets lead at three runs. The Jets had three runners on in the top of the sixth, but could not bat them around. The Ichabods would then score their first run in the bottom of the sixth with two hits that scored one. The Jets held the lead at 3-1 heading into the seventh inning. Through seven innings, De Graauw struck out 10 Ichabods allowing just one run and five hits. In the top of the eighth, the Ichabods were able to cut the Jets lead to just one run after a single that was followed by an RBI triple. This was then followed by a double that tied the game at 3-3. To end the eighth inning, the Ichabods scored to go ahead run off a wild pitch from the Jets. Heading into the final inning, Washburn had the 4-3 lead. 

Player Notes:
- Gunnell led the Jets with two RBIs with two hits and one double.
- Wohl went 2-2 from the plate. 
- De Graauw struck out ten through seven innings pitched. 

The Jets return home on Thursday at 3 PM against UCM to open their final three game series of the season.
