EDMOND, Okla. – Newman Women's Soccer traveled to Edmond for a non-conference match up against Lone Star Conference opponent Oklahoma Christian.
How it Happened:
Oklahoma Christian opened the scoring early, finding the back of the net in the 8th minute to take a 1-0 lead. Newman responded in the 39th minute, as Abbey Gatesman netted the equalizer off an assist from Morgan Todd off the earned corner try, tying the match at 1-1. Just three minutes later, Emma Kolbe connected with a go-ahead goal, giving Newman a 2-1 lead heading into halftime.
In the first half, Oklahoma Christian tallied nine shots to Newman's eight. Carla Apodaca made three key saves to keep the Eagles to just one goal.
Coming out of the break, the Eagles leveled the score again with a goal in the 54th minute. Despite consistent pressure from Oklahoma Christian, including a 14-11 shot advantage and 10 corner kicks to Newman's three, the Jets defense held firm to earn the draw. The match ended in a 2-2 tie.
