WICHITA- The Jets hosted Arkansas- Fort Smith is their conference and home opener. The Lions won the four set match, 3-1.
How it Happened:
The Jets and Arkansas–Fort Smith went back and forth early, battling to a 4–4 tie. The Jets then strung together a 7–0 run, sparked by a block from
Isabella Lamb, to build an 11–4 advantage. UAFS slowly chipped away and eventually pulled even at 15–15. The Jets pushed back in front 22–20, but the Lions rallied late, erasing set point and taking the opener 26–24.
The two teams stayed close through the opening moments of the second set, trading points to get to a 7-7 tie. A stretch of kills from
Isabella Lamb and
Sky Miller brought the Jets within four after UAFS had extended their lead to 17-10. An ace from
Madalyn Hoot and back to back kills from
Avery Kelley gave the Jets the lead 23-22 late in the frame, but the Lions used a 3-0 run to take the second set, 25-23.
The Jets shot out to a 4-1 lead after a
Hannah Tymitz ace. The Lions fought back to tie the frame at 14, but the Jets took the momentum back with kills from Lamb and Miller to give the Jets a 20-18 lead. The Lions once again tied it late in the set at 23, but
Avery Kelley ended the set, with the Jets winning 26-24.
Brooklyn Lane got the fourth set started with back to back aces, giving the Jets an early 5-2 lead. UAFS stormed back, taking a 14-10 lead. Lamb and Miller recorded back to back kills to bring the Jets within two, but the Lions spurned the Jets comeback and closed out the set and the match, winning 25-19.
