WICHITA – The Jets opened their season by hosting Lone Star Conference opponent West Texas A&M.
How It Happened:
The Jets and Buffaloes played an even first 45 minutes, heading into halftime tied 0-0. In the first half, the Jets tallied eight shots compared to the Buffaloes' two. Both teams earned one corner kick apiece, but neither side could find the back of the net before the break.
Early in the second half, the Buffaloes broke through with a goal in the 51st minute by Venancio Calderon to take a 1-0 lead. The Jets created several chances in the following minutes but couldn't find the equalizer. In the 65th minute, Eduardo Dos Santos put a shot on frame, but the Buffaloes' goalkeeper came up with the save. Gibran Villalobos had a look inside the box in the 84th minute, but again the keeper kept the Jets scoreless. Three minutes later, Payton Pitts nearly leveled the match with a strike from outside the box, but his shot sailed just high.
Despite outshooting the Buffaloes 14-5, the Jets couldn't capitalize and fell 1-0 in their season opener.
