WICHITA – Newman Women's Soccer opened the season at home against GLVC opponent William Jewell. The Jets defeated the Cardinals, 4-1. 

How it Happened:
The Cardinals struck first in the 22nd minute to take a 1-0 lead. Newman responded in the 32nd minute when Emma Kolbe buried a long-range shot to even the score. Just eight minutes later, Trinity Perry chipped in a goal off an assist from Allison Hernandez to put the Jets on top. Both teams finished the half with five shots and two saves, but Perry's 40th-minute goal sent Newman into the break with a 2-1 advantage.

Newman carried the momentum into the second half, as Delphine Sosu scored in the 41st minute to extend the lead to 3-1. The Jets defense held firm the rest of the way, keeping the Cardinals off the board. In the net, Carla Apodaca saved three shots in 90 minutes of play that led the Jets to allow only one goal. Sosu struck again in the 88th minute to seal the win and give Newman a 4-1 victory in the season opener.
