BOLIVAR, Mo. - Women's Soccer hit the road Saturday to take on GLVC opponent Southwest Baptist, following a season-opening win over William Jewell. Women's Soccer dropped a close road match to Southwest Baptist on Saturday afternoon, falling 2–1 despite a strong second-half push.
How It Happened:
The Bearcats struck early, opening the scoring in the 10th minute to take a 1-0 lead. SBU added another in the 21st minute to extend the advantage to 2-0. Newman's defense held firm the rest of the half, keeping the Bearcats off the board and heading into the break trailing by two. Despite the deficit, the Jets generated plenty of chances in the opening period, outshooting Southwest Baptist 11-9 and placing six shots on goal, but were unable to find the back of the net.
The Jets regrouped in the second half, controlling more possession and creating several scoring opportunities.Senior forward
Delphine Dzidzinyo Sosu brought Newman within one in the 83rd minute, netting her third goal of the season. Despite multiple late attempts, including shots from
Emma Kolbe, and
Maylani Birckbichler, the Jets were unable to find the equalizer.
