Men’s Basketball falls to Bronchos

WICHITA- The Jets hosted Central Oklahoma for a Saturday afternoon matchup. Newman would fall short, 89-72. 

How it Happened:
- The Bronchos started the game with an 8-0 run. The Jets first score came from Jayden Schoen who connected with the three-pointer and converted the free throw for a four-point play. This cut the deficit in half, Jets trailing 8-4 with under 17 minutes to play. At the first media break of the first half, the Jets trailed 16-6. A 4-0 run by the Jets with a basket from Trae Clayton and free throws by Cyrus Shaw closed the gap to 16-10. The Jets and Bronchos would continue to trade on and off baskets in the first half. The Jets put together a 7-0 run taking the score to 28-21 with seven to play. During this run, Jacob Joe scored five and Deacon Courtney scored two points. The Bronchos would later respond with their own 7-0 run to take their lead to 39-26 with under three minutes to play. A three-pointer by Joe would stop this surge. To end the first half, the Bronchos went on a 9-0 run to take the lead 50-32 at the break. Joe led the Jets offense in the first half with 11 points. In the first half, UCO shot 64/7% from the field, compared to the Jets 37.5%. 
- The Jets were first to score in the second half, with a basket by Kobe Freeman. Jayden Schoen would score his eighth point on the Jets second possession to make the score 52-36. A 5-0 run by the Bronchos would take their lead to 21 points with 16 minutes to play. Free throws by Jordan Glenn-Hawkins would stop this short surge. At the 13 minute mark, Thatcher McClure connected with an and-one, cutting the deficit to 15 points. Later, a 4-0 run by the Bronchos took the lead to 69-51 with ten minutes to play. Newman answered with a 5-0 run, with an and-one converted by Clayton and two free throws by Shaw. McClure scored five straight for the Jets, taking the score to 78-63 with under six to play. McClure hit another three-pointer for the Jets, this time taking the deficit to 13 points, 79-66. Shaw added on two free throws to cut it to 11 points with 3:30 to go. With two minutes remaining, the Jets trailed by 15 points. Newman was unable to close the deficit, the Jets fell 89-72. 

Player Notes: 
- McClure led the Jets with 19 points, going 7-13 from the field with seven rebounds. 
- Shaw added 15 points, going a perfect 9-9 from the free throw line. 
- Joe scored 11 points, 4-8 from the field.

The Jets hit the road next weekend to face Missouri Southern and Pittsburg State.
