Jets split Sunday double header with UIU

PRATT, Kan.- The Jets capped off the series against the Peacocks with a Sunday double header. In game one the Jets fell, 15-3. The Jets took the second game of the double header, 6-2. 

Game One: NU 3, UIU 15
- The Peacocks were first to score, with one run being pushed across in the top of the third inning. The Jets stole the lead from UIU in the bottom half of the third inning. A single by Chris Lubchuk. Later in the inning, a double by Nicolas Ely advanced Lubchuk to third. Zac Becker followed this up with a single that scored both Ely and Lubchuk to put the Jets up 2-0. 
- A two run home run in the top of the fourth inning by the Peacocks would retake the lead at 3-2 for UIU. Later in the inning with bases loaded, UIU connected with a home run to drive in four runs. This pushed their lead out to 7-2. Following the grand slam, UIU hit a solo home run which allowed the Peacocks to take the 8-2 lead. UIU would then connect with another home run to take a 10-2 lead.  With two outs and runners on first and second, a single to right field would score the Peacocks 11th run. The Peacocks would score three more runs in the inning. After the top of the third, UIU held the 14-2 lead over the Jets. Anthony Cannavino led off the bottom of the fourth inning with a solo home run, taking the score to 14-3. 
- The next run would be scored by UIU in the top of the sixth to extend the lead to 15-3. The Jets were unable to score in the sixth inning to respond. In the top of the seventh, the Jets defense held UIU to no runs scored. Newman could not cut into the deficit in the final half inning. UIU would take game three, 15-3. 
Player Notes:
- Becker led Newman with 2 RBIs. 
- Cannavino tallied one RBI. 
- Ely went 2-4 from the plate, hitting one double and scoring once. 

Game Two: NU 6, UIU 2
- Behind Frank Fabian on the mound, the Jets defense held off UIU in the top of the first. The Jets bats were rolling in the bottom of the first, connecting with three hits for two runs. In the inning, Nicolas Ely hit a double, followed by a Brett Kocher single. Kaynan Kaku then came up to the plate, hitting a sacrifice fly that scored the first Jets run. Anthony Cannavino then hit a single, followed by a sacrifice fly from Peyton Mitchell that scored the Jets second run. After the opening inning the Jets led 2-0. Through three innings, Fabian and the Jets defense held UIU to two hits and no runs. The Jets were unable to score in the bottom of the third, holding the lead at 3-0 through three. 
- Through five innings, the Jets defense and Fabian continued to hold off UIU keeping the lead at 3-0. In the bottom of the fifth, the Jets were able to extend the lead to 5-0. Carter Andreozzi was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. He would then steal second. Ely followed this up with a hit by pitch to put runners on first and second. A sacrifice bunt by Kocher moved the runners to second and third. A single by Kaku would score two to push the lead to 5-0. Later in the inning,  a wild inning from the Peacocks would allow the Jets to score their sixth run. The Jets held the 6-0 lead heading into the sixth. Neither team would add a run in the sixth inning. In the top of the seventh, the Peacocks were able to add two runs, but couldn't close the gap. The Jets took game four of the series, 6-2.

Player notes:
- Fabian gets the win on the mound, pitching all seven innings with four strikeouts and four hits allowed.
- Kaku records three RBIs. 
- Ely and Mitchell tack on an RBI apiece. 

The Jets are back at McCarthy Field on Tuesday to host NWOSU.
