Baseball drops conference opener to Ichabods

WICHITA- The Jets hosted Washburn to kick off conference play. The Ichabods took game one, 6-4. 

How it Happened: 
- Ryan Pacha started on the mound for the Jets, allowing no hits in the first inning to keep WU off the board. The Jets were first to score, with one run crossing the plate in the bottom half of the opening inning.  Nicolas Ely kicked off the inning with a single to short. He would then reach second base from a sacrifice bunt from Collin Morris. Ely would later reach third on a stolen base. A wild pitch would then allow Ely to score. After one, the Jets led 1-0. Pacha and the Jets defense continued to hold the Ichabods off the board, allowing just one hit through three innings to hold the 1-0 lead. 
- The Ichabods put two runs on the board in the top of the fourth inning to take the 2-1 lead. In the bottom half of the inning, a leadoff walk put Kaynan Kaku on first. A wild pitch would allow Kaku to take second. Then, Anthony Cannavinio singled to center to push Kaku across the plate, tying the game at 2-2. In the top of the fifth inning, the Ichabods regained the lead after scoring two more runs. This gave WU the 4-2 lead heading into the sixth inning. Ichabod pitcher Caleb Lunnon tallied ten strikeouts through six innings to hold the Jets to two runs and four total hits. After six completed, the Jets trailed 4-2. 
- A leadoff walk for the Jets in the top of the seventh allowed Zac Becker to reach. Becker would then reach third after back-to-back ground outs by the Jets allowed Becker to advance. A wild pitch from Ichabod pitcher, Gavin Wilhelm, would allow the Jets to score their third run. After seven, the Jets trailed by one, 4-3. In the bottom of the eighth inning, the Jets were able to tie the game up at 4-4. Collin Morris doubled to put himself in scoring position in the bottom of the eighth. Later in the inning, a single by Cannavino batted in Morris to tie it. In the top of the ninth inning, the Ichabods scored two unearned runs to take the 6-4 lead. The Jets were unable to score in the bottom of the ninth, resulting in a 6-4 loss to the Ichabods in game one. 

Player Notes:
- Cannavino led the bats with two RBIs, going 2-3 from the plate. 
- Morris went 2-3 from the plate. 

The Jets are back tomorrow for game two against Washburn at 2 PM.
