Jets secure game three victory over WU

WICHITA- The Jets capped off the opening weekend of MIAA with a win over the Ichabods, 10-9.

How it Happened:
- The Ichabods put together three hits for three runs in the top of the opening inning. The Jets responded with one hit for two runs in the bottom of the first. A bases loaded hit by pitch earned by Zac Becker scored the first run. The second run was scored off a wild pitch with bases loaded that Collin Morris scored on. After one, the Ichabods led 3-2. WU tacked on two more runs in the top of the second inning with a two-run home run. This pushed the Ichabods in front 5-2. Becker was first to reach base in the bottom of the third, after earning a walk.  This was followed up by a double by Justin Birch that put runners on second and third. Kayden Dawson would push both Becker and Birch across the plate with a single to right field. This cut the deficit to just one run at 5-4.
- A run scored by the Ichabods in the top of the fourth would push their lead to two runs, 6-4. The Jets were unable to cut into this deficit in the bottom half of the inning. The next score came from the Ichabods in the top of the fifth, extending the lead to three runs at 7-4. Two runs batted around by the Ichabods in the top of the sixth stretched their lead out to 9-4.
- The Jets would score four in the bottom of the seventh inning to cut the deficit to just one run. Kaynan Kaku was the first base runner for the Jets after earning a walk. An error by the Washburn defense allowed Justin Birch to reach and Kaku to score. Dawson would later single that scored Birch. Thomas Munn would then single that put runners at second and first. Riley Kujawa then added a single that scored Munn and Dawson after a throwing error by the Ichabods left fielder. Heading into the eighth, the Jets trailed by just one at 9-8. The Jets would overtake the Ichabods in the bottom of the eighth. Morris started off the inning with a walk. Cannavino followed this with a single to push Morris to second. Kaku then laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance the runners to second and third. Becker came up huge at the plate, singling to right field that scored two. This two RBI hit by Becker allowed the Jets to take the 10-9 lead. In the top of the ninth, a double play from pitcher Kellen Curtis to second base, then over to first put the Jets in a great position. Maximus Moreno then entered to face the final batter. Moreno struck out the final batter, securing the 10-9 win over the Ichabods.
