2/27/2026 5:00:00 PM

WICHITA- The Newman University Athletics Department announced Friday afternoon the discontinuation of its Men's and Women's Tennis program following the 2025-2026 season.

The decision, made after a thorough evaluation of program sustainability, will allow the department to focus resources on its 15 remaining NCAA Division II varsity sports to ensure their long-term success.

"Part of my role with being hired as the new AD was to evaluate all of our sports and department and make recommendations and decisions to align Athletics with the overall mission and goals of the institution, " said Athletic Director Kenyon Spears. "We will continue to do this great work daily."

Newman University is committed to supporting these student-athletes throughout the transition by assisting with transfers, honoring current scholarships, and providing academic resources.

"We will make sure our current student athlete scholarships are honored, and we will provide all the access needed to help them be successful if they choose to stay at Newman," said Spears. "They will continue to have the same academic access and my personal access."

Newman University continues to invest in the long-term success and stability of its athletic programs, ensuring that all remaining sports have the support needed to thrive.
