WICHITA- After 21 years of dedicated service to Newman University Athletics, Maureen "Mo" Rohleder has announced her retirement, concluding a distinguished career that included leadership roles as a coach, administrator, Compliance Coordinator and Senior Woman Administrator.

"I have been blessed to be able to give back to all three schools that I attended as a student-athlete and feel fortunate to continue my passion for athletics as a coach and administrator, especially as a Jet," said Rohleder. "To the athletes I have coached and mentored and the many cherished friends I have made across the years, I am truly thankful. My family, especially my husband, Al, and our four boys have been instrumental in providing support and encouragement to me.  My wish is to see Newman University Athletics flourish and become the program I always fought for it to be. Go Jets."

Rohleder joined Newman in 2005 as the head volleyball coach, assistant athletic director and Senior Woman Administrator. During her four seasons leading the Jets volleyball program, she helped guide the department through its transition from the NAIA to NCAA Division II, coaching two seasons at each level.

Following her tenure as head coach, Rohleder continued serving the athletic department as Assistant Athletic Director and Senior Woman Administrator. She was promoted to Associate Athletic Director prior to the 2015-16 academic year.

Throughout her time at Newman, Rohleder's impact extended well beyond her day-to-day responsibilities. She chaired the Newman Athletics Hall of Fame Committee, served as the administrative advisor for the Newman Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and was a member of the Faculty Athletic Advisory Committee.

"There is profound appreciation for the person that Mo has been for 21 years at Newman," said Associate Athletic Director Zach Brake. "Countless student-athletes, coaches, and administrators are better today because of the impact Mo had during their time as a Jet. When you think of Newman Athletics, you think of Mo Rohleder. She is the professional, person, and friend that everyone can strive to be. Mo has left her mark on this private, Catholic campus through her various roles, and we wish her the best in her hard-earned retirement."

Before arriving at Newman, Rohleder built an accomplished coaching career at Bishop Carroll Catholic High School in Wichita. During her 13 seasons as the school's volleyball coach, she led the program to four state championships and 10 Greater Wichita Athletic League titles. In recognition of her contributions to athletics in the Wichita community, Rohleder was inducted into the Wichita Sports Hall of Fame in 2011.

A proud Newman alumna, Rohleder earned both her bachelor's degree in sociology and her master's degree in education from the University. As a student-athlete, she competed for the Jets in both volleyball and softball.

"Mo has been a great asset for Newman University and Newman Athletics," said Athletic Director Kenyon Spears. "I am very thankful for her dedication to the student athletes and coaches throughout her career. [We] wish her all the best in her well deserved retirement."
