WICHITA- Baseball hosted MSU Denver for their home opener on Friday afternoon. The Jets fell short, 5-3.
How it Happened:
- Through the first two innings of play, the Roadrunners tallied three hits but the Jets defense held MSU Denver scoreless. The Jets would record two hits through two innings, scoring the first run of the game with an RBI by
Louis Coca. This gave the Jets an early 1-0 lead. Newman would hold the 1-0 lead through the first three innings.
- The Roadrunners found themselves in scoring position with a runner on third and first, but the Jets would escape the inning allowing no runs. The next score would come in the top of the fifth inning. MSU Denver tacked on three hits scoring two runs to take the 2-1 lead over NU. In the top of the sixth, a two out single would push another MSU Denver run across the plate. This extended their lead to 3-1. Later, a single would drive in a fourth run for the Roadrunners. To leadoff the sixth inning,
Collin Morris singled and would advance to second after the ball hit off the diving shortstop.
Kaynan Kaku would bat Morris in from second with a single to cut the deficit to 4-2.
- The next run would score in the bottom of the eighth with Morris credited with an RBI, closing the gap to 4-3. The Jets would later load the bases with two outs after Kaku doubled and the Jets earned two walks. However, the Jets were unable to push across another run in the eighth. With two outs in the top of the ninth, the Roadrunners added their fifth run extending their lead to 5-3. The Roadrunners defense held off the Jets in the bottom half of the inning. Newman fell short, 5-3.
